What Cottage Homecare NJ Actually Provides
Our caregivers help with the parts of daily life that get harder with age, illness, or injury: bathing, dressing, meal prep, mobility, light housekeeping, and company through the day. This is non-medical, hands-on support. It is not a substitute for nursing or hospital-level care.
When a client's care plan requires skilled nursing, wound care, infusion, or physical therapy, we coordinate that piece through a licensed home health or nursing partner. We do not represent ourselves as a Certified Home Health Agency (CHHA) or hospice provider, because we are neither. Our role is to staff and manage the personal care and companion care side of a client's plan, and to work alongside the clinical providers a family already has in place.
Personal Care and Companion Support
This is where most of our work happens day to day:
- Bathing, grooming, and dressing assistance
- Mobility support and fall-risk awareness
- Meal planning and preparation
- Light housekeeping, laundry, and errands
- Conversation, companionship, and getting clients out to appointments or social visits
Care Schedules
Families choose the schedule that fits. Some need a few hours a few days a week. Others need someone in the home around the clock.
- Hourly or part-time visits
- Full daily coverage
- Live-in, 24/7 arrangements
- Short-term support after a hospital stay or during a family caregiver's break
Paying for Care
New Jersey home care is generally paid one of three ways: through Medicaid Managed Long-Term Services and Supports (MLTSS), out of pocket as private pay, or through a family-directed program where an eligible relative is paid to provide care. Which option makes sense depends on income, existing Medicaid enrollment, and the level of care needed. Our intake team can walk through eligibility with a family before any paperwork starts.
When a Client Needs More Than Personal Care
Some clients also need things outside our scope, and we say so plainly instead of stretching what we offer:
- Skilled nursing, wound care, or infusion therapy — handled through a licensed home health agency partner, not directly by Cottage.
- Hospice care — provided by a licensed hospice agency; our caregivers can provide non-medical companion support alongside a hospice team, but we don't manage the hospice care plan itself.
- Physical or occupational therapy — coordinated with a licensed therapy provider as part of a client's broader plan.
