CHHA stands for Certified Home Health Agency, a type of home care agency that New York State checks and formally approves. A CHHA may coordinate nursing, home health aide services, medical supplies, therapy, and other approved services based on the patient’s needs and insurance coverage.

New York’s CHHA program covers part-time home care rather than full-time or around-the-clock support. Medicare, Medicaid, private pay, or another insurance plan can all cover it, though Cottage’s own aide service specifically requires active New York Medicaid.

Think of it this way: an HHA is a trained caregiver, while a CHHA is a Certified Home Health Agency that may provide home health aide services as part of an approved care plan.

A CNA usually works inside hospitals and nursing homes. A CHHA, on the other hand, is the home care agency that sends trained aides into your house.
